NaNoWriMo: Halfway!

25,028 words, specifically. Halfway there!

I'm not actually much happier with my accomplishments than I was before. But we'll just see how it goes.

  1. I've always thought the whole NaNoWriMo thing kills off more potential writers than nutures them. Many people fail to hit 50,000, or write 50,000, feel exhausted, and realise it's all crap.

Just don't take it too seriously!

  2. Hey, TIG! Don't worry, I know I'm writing garbage. :) I suppose, really, that this year's goal could just be to get the fiction-writing wheels warmed up and moving, with the intent of continuing on a much smaller scale through the rest of the year.

  3. I've actually heard of this but don't know much about it! Can you explain what it is, exactly? NaNoWriMo that is?

  4. Yo, Lauren!

The idea is that you write a fifty thousand word novel in a month. Now, I don't think that even a first-draft-quality novel is likely to happen in a month; I see it as a way for people to break through perfectionist "I'll write a novel someday when I have time and have the perfect idea" barriers and just write.

And write and write and write. And maybe by the end of the month come out with a seed of something, or maybe at least come out with a little more practice and a somewhat higher comfort level in writing fiction.

My understanding is that a few NaNoWriMo novels _have_ been rewritten and rewritten and polished and polished and polished, and gotten published by real live conventional publishers. Which is cool. But my goals don't go anywhere near there - my goals are just "write fiction more often".

  5. Yay for you! I knew NaNoMo was approaching and I ran. Ran so far away. Because I'm scared of having to actually do all that writing in one month. I will try it next year though. Maybe I'll be ready by then?

  6. Yo, Chick! Yes, try it! It's fun! Sort of. Part of the time. When it's going well.
