Books: Children's Books Continued

I love children's books. In the past few days, I've been collecting them like squirrel nuts. In addition to those listed in my recent post, I've added:
  • The Looking Glass Wars, by Frank Beddor. This is written the "true story" of Alice and her exile from Wonderland.
  • Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos, by R.L. LaFevers. The adventures of an eleven year old that one summary describes as a combination of Nancy Drew and Indiana Jones. It was on the "staff picks" shelf at my local bookstore.
Anyone have any others to suggest?

  1. My favorite children's book, though I'm guessing it is intended for younger audiences than the ones you discuss, is Don & Audrey Wood masterpiece "Heckedy Peg". (It's a picture book, but is such a brilliant story it is as good as (and better than) many of the classics; and the illustrations are gorgeous.

I am curious as to the origin of the robot photo.

  3. When I was a child, I loved reading and being read Roald Dahl books like The BFG, Mr Fox and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Even now I read these to my kids and they love them.

  4. Hey, Lion! Ooh. I haven't read everything by Roald Dahl. I should read the ones that are new to me. And re-read the ones that are old to me.

  6. Yo, Enchanter! Woohoo! I'll have to go in there next time I'm nearby. I've always thought that it was great to have a children's bookstore right next to the park, because it's on long park days that I really want a good fat children's novel to read.
